Playgroup
Welcome to the Playgroup!
I am Jinyoung Kwon and my teaching assistant is Ms Laura Trevor. The children call us Teacher Jinyoung and Teacher Laura.
We aim to help children develop their independence, social, physical and academic skills in a fun way throughout the year. Children will be exposed to an appropriate learning environment with materials and activities that will help them develop trust and confidence in themselves and others.
In Playgroup the children will be encouraged to develop their interests and find things out for themselves.
We frequently vary the classroom environment adding new materials as the children develop through the year.
When possible we go into the local Korean community for real world experiences. We welcome and encourage parents to be involved in all aspects of our programme.
We introduce elements of the Primary Years Programme ( PYP ) in Playgroup. We encourage children to explore and be ‘inquirers’
Our main units for the year are “Me”, “My Family”, “Our Community” and “Animals”.
The current unit the children are investigating is all about “Animals”. The central idea is “We share our world with many different animals.” We will be inquiring into “Where do we find animals?", "How do animals care for themselves?” and "How do we help care for animals?. The profiles focused on are inquirer and caring. The children will listen to stories, sing songs and complete various creative activities involving "Animals".
