ISB ADMISSIONS POLICY

Admission Qualifications:  (for initial and continued enrolment)

In the ELC, Elementary and Middle School classes, students in categories 4 and 5 will form not more than 35% of any class population nor fill either of the last two vacancies in any class.

Preference will be given to students whose enrolment in Korean school does not exceed the preceding eighteen calendar months.

Admission to the school will be determined by the Principal with the advice of the teaching staff, based on information obtained with respect to:
The potential of the applicant to benefit from the educational services available.
The capacity of the school to meet the educational needs of the student.

Standardised entrance tests are not normally given to applicants in ELC or Elementary School. However, in some cases, the School may test if it has reason to believe the applicant does not meet the academic criteria for admission. Students in Grade 6 and above will be expected to take an English language proficiency assessment. Midway through their Grade 8 studies, students for whom English is not their first language, may be reassessed to ensure their ability to commence their IGCSE studies.

Students wishing to enter regular classes in Grades 9 and 10 must have a level of English proficiency to meet the demands of the IGCSE programme. If they do not, they will not be allowed to take some of the classes and parents must provide for the provision of additional English teaching during this time.

Students will not be allowed to enter Grades 11-12 unless they have proficiency in English.

The school reserves the right to deny admission to any applicant if, in its opinion there is reason to believe that admission would not be in the best interests of the applicant or the school.

The school reserves the right to deny or postpone admission. In this case, the applicant is placed on a waiting list. Qualified applicants are then accepted as spaces become available, following the priorities as set out in the ISB Admissions Categories.

Placement on the waiting list does not guarantee entry into ISB.

Students will only be placed on the waiting list once the school has received the completed application form and the registration fee.

The final decision for the enrolment of any student lies with the Principal.

Entrance Age and Student Placement

It must be noted that the School's academic year runs from August until June with September 1st being the date by which students are placed in their grade levels. It is not possible for the School to accommodate the many varied placement systems of individual countries.

Student Records from Other Schools
The School requires student records, printed in English, from the applicant’s previous school(s) before any student is accepted. The School reserves the right to contact the applicant’s previous school prior to acceptance.

Interviews
Whenever possible, the applicant will be interviewed by the Principal prior to acceptance. In some cases, as determined by the Principal and the class teacher, an interview may be required before admission.

Reservation of Places at ISB

For the current school year, a place cannot be held for more than three months. This time can only be extended if tuition fees are paid in advance for the period beyond the three month limit.

For the subsequent academic year, priority is given to returning students. Returning students must confirm their place by April 14th. This reservation must include a non-returnable pre-payment of 2 million Won. No places can be held after this date.

After April 14th, students in categories 1-3 are allocated places following the admissions policy of the school and with reference to the date of submission of the application forms.

As from the middle of May students in categories 4 and 5 are allocated places following the admissions policy of the school and with reference to the date of submission of the application forms.

Each year, ISB is forced to place students on a waiting list due to a high demand for enrolment. Once placed on a waiting list, there is no guarantee that a space will open for a given school year. Given the school’s priority system, a student’s position on the waiting list may change if there are subsequent applications that carry a higher priority. Applicants can express an interest to be considered for the following school year if acceptance in a given school year is not obtained.
