High School
In Grades 9 and 10, the students will be studying for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) from the University of Cambridge. It is the most widely used of any international examination for 14-16 year olds in the world. This is a challenging two year course which leads to a globally recognised standard of achievement. With specialist teachers and small class sizes, the students will be able to achieve to the best of their ability.
All the students are required to participate in English language, mathematics and science. They then make further choices from certain groups of subjects. The choice of subjects include geography, history, art & design, music, ICT, design & technology, Korean, Spanish and English literature. For further details on the IGCSE, please refer to the IGCSE Handbook, which is available in the Downloads section of the website.
In 2008, the school will open its High School offering the world-renowned IB Diploma programme. It is accepted by all the major universities and is a highly rigorous course that demands not only considerable academic aptitude, but also requires students to carry out a CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) component and produce an extended essay on a subject of the student’s choice.
Not all of their school life will be work though as they will be involved in a range of extra-curricular activities and events. There are a number of after school activities to choose from and a wide range of musical options to take including choir, orchestra, piano, violin, saxophone, clarinet, guitar, drum, cello, trumpet and flute tuition. In late May or early June, students will have the opportunity to take part in Action Week. This will offer students the choice of overseas adventure camps, excursions within Korea or a range of school-based activities including photography, ceramics, video production and many more.
As a small school, ISB takes the time to look after and develop the individual student while providing them with the necessary personal, social and academic skills to carry them along their path of life-long learning.
