Teaching Staff
Jinyoung is from Korea. She was an assistant to Preschool and Reception in previous years and is now in her first year teaching the Playgroup class. Jinyoung enjoys being a part of the Early Learning Centre (ELC). She used to work with elementary students in Korean schools, but finds it much more enjoyable working with younger children. If not busy working, she loves to travel around the world.
Sierra is originally from New York and has spent the past four years teaching in countries around the world. She just arrived to Busan after living and teaching in Dusseldorf, Germany for the past two years. She received her teaching license and Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University in Virginia. While her hobbies outside of school already include running, rock climbing, kayaking, and reading, she is hoping to find many more aspects to Busan life that spark her interest!
Pam comes from the Philippines and has been teaching at ISB since 2005. She has taught different lower elementary levels in private and international schools for many years now. In the previous schools where Pam taught, she took an active role in further developing their respective ELC programs. If not working, Pam enjoys organising activities with friends and spending time with her daughter.
Kathy is from Korea and has been teaching at ISB for many years. She gained her qualification in the United Sates. During her spare time she enjoys going to the movies with her family.
Matt has recently arrived from Melbourne, Australia where he achieved his Bachleor of Education and began his teaching career. Before becoming a teacher, he worked as a fully qualified chef and has worked in many countries around the world including New Zealand, Greece and the United Kingdom. In his spare time he enjoys following a range of sports especially Australian Rules football and competing in local fun runs to maintain his fitness. Currently, Matt is enjoying his transition into his new Korean life and is looking forward to the future.
Lindy comes from Melbourne, Australia. She has been an Elementary school teacher for over 16 years, teaching at a range of year levels. She has a special interest in early literacy and has a Masters Degree in Special Education. ISB is her first international teaching role and she is very pleased to be in Korea with her husband and two children. Outside of school she loves to cook, read, travel and spend time with family and friends.
Originally from Southern California, Natalie lived on the east coast of the U.S. for 6 years. She received her B.A. in Philadelphia before moving to Brooklyn to teach 5th grade and complete a Master's Degree in Education. Her international teaching experience began in Douala, Cameroon where she taught at the American School for the past two years.
Peter is originally from Adelaide, Australia. He has been teaching for the past 18 years in Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and, most recently Indonesia. He has taught a wide variety of grades and subject areas mostly at the elementary level. He has been involved with many different sporting activities, teaching ESL and outdoor education. Peter is very impressed with many aspects of the International School of Busan since arriving this year and looks forward to his time working here.
Michelle has 13 years teaching experience and has taught in a range of schools in Australia. She has an Elementary Teaching qualification and a Master's Degree in Special Education. Michelle enjoys travelling and is looking forward to touring around Korea.
Virginia is from Australia and has been teaching for over ten years. She has taught in Thailand, England, and Australia. Virginia appreciates all aspects of art including photography, reading, music and she enjoys the opportunities of teaching and traveling in different countries and cultures.
Ceejay is originally from the Philippines. She's been in the academe for 12 years now, and has taught preschool to university. She taught at the International School Manila for 2 years before coming to Busan. She is currently teaching ICT from Preschool to Reception and Grades 6 to 10. Ceejay enjoys traveling and being with her family and friends.
John is from Brisbane, Australia. He has been teaching since 1997 and has worked in both Elementary and High School settings. John enjoys traveling and working abroad, and in addition to his work in Australia, he has taught in England and Thailand. John enjoys exercising, reading, sight-seeing and watching live sport.
Born and raised in a desolate area of Wyoming, Carl's desire to travel and see other parts of the world began early in his life. After years of budget travel and working in a variety of industries, Carl decided teaching abroad would be a good use of his expensive education. In his spare time, he loves to watch American Football, indulge in culinary delights, and partake in a variety of sports and outdoor pursuits.
Shawn completed his undergraduate studies in Canada and went on to pursue graduate studies in Australia. He has taught at the middle and high school levels, and is now enjoying his third year at ISB teaching Y10 IGCSE Computer Studies, Y10 IGCSE Mathematics, and Y11/12 IB Mathematics. A few of Shawn's hobbies include weight lifting, playing squash, outdoor running, film, photography, literature, cuisine, globetrotting and "Hockey Night in Canada".
David is originally from the United States. Prior to coming to Busan, he has taught Social Studies in schools in the Chicago-land area, Eastern Europe, and China. He comes to Busan after teaching International Baccalaureate Geography in China and serving as Career Guidance Counselor. In addition, he worked in the field of international academic and cultural exchange programming for the US Department of State in Washington, DC, where he placed students from countries all over the world in US universities. David's hobbies include: exercise, travel, reading, current events, and watching the Chicago Cubs baseball team continually disappoint.
Craig was introduced to the rewarding life of an educator at an early age by his mathematics teaching father. He spent five years after university wandering the planet, realizing how many more places there were to explore. Museums, outdoor adventure, ancient ruins and natural exploration proved to be the best education he had received, and wanted nothing more than to share it with inquiring minds. Craig was introduced to the world of international teaching in Sana'a, Yemen, and is in his first year here at ISB.
Matija is from Canada and has 10 years of teaching experience. She has taught grades one to eight across many subject areas throughout her career. Matija has taught in Canada, China, Romania and now in Korea. She enjoys a variety of sports as well as reading, traveling and spending time with family.
A native of Boston, Ari completed much of his formal education in New York City before he began teaching as a participant in the NYC Teaching Fellows Program. Ari has since taught in Brooklyn and Boston, and also internationally in Douala, Cameroon, where he founded a soccer league and became involved in film production. A writer at heart, Ari enjoys the adventures that accompany living and teaching abroad.
Thomas is from Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to coming to Busan, he taught Science in middle and high schools in upstate New York, as well as in Shanghai, and Thailand. Before earning a Masters degree in teaching, he worked as a field technician performing plant & soil tests at an agricultural university, and as a site designer for a geotechnical engineering company. He enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, snorkeling, hiking, and sailing.
Originally from Chile, South America, Miss Vasquez studied in Chile and in England. She has worked overseas for several years. She has worked in her home country, the United States where she taught ESL and Spanish and in Hong Kong where she taught ESL and English Literature. She enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking, drawing and calligraphy.
Melissa is from Argentina and has taught Physical Education in Argentina, having worked in Club Atletico Boca Juniors as well as other various schools and colleges. She has also taught Spanish in Brasil and USA. Before coming to Korea, Ms. Vogel was in Shanghai China where she was teaching Spanish and P.E. She enjoys having fun and being around kids with particular interest in sports and cultures. She is looking forward to a lively experience with students and staff at ISB.
Jin is from Busan. She has been teaching Korean Language Studies at ISB since April 2004. Jin enjoys making movies with her students; their projects can be seen at ISB Creative. Jin is also a dog lover and she runs her own dog shelter here in Busan.
Miky started teaching at ISB in August 2006. Prior to this, she owned and managed an English teaching Academy. She has been involved with teaching for over 10 years. Miky has maintained her involvement in the education field, in some form or another since 1995. She lived and worked in the USA for a number of years before returning to Korea in 2000.
Meng is from Korea. She studied Early Years Education in London and has taught in international schools in Tanzania, Kenya and Korea for 10 years. She joined the Korean department last year and enjoyed the opportunity to teach Korean language to ISB students. Last year Meng was awarded a teaching certificate for the teaching of Korean language for foreigners. Meng likes to go to concerts and enjoys traveling.
Tatiana comes to Korea from the USA where she taught ESL at the International Institute of Buffalo in upstate New York. She has previously worked and studied in Australia, UK, the Pacific Islands, Russia and Turkey.
Mandy comes from Scotland and has lived in Busan with her family for four years. She has previously lived in Saudi Arabia, Denmark and Singapore. She has worked as a teaching assistant, and as teacher, for four years while living in Saudi Arabia. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, baking, studying interior design and making jewellery.
Deanna is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she received her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Women's Studies. She has previously taught ESL for primary, middle, and high school students in Sana'a, Yemen. In her spare time, Deanna enjoys photography, yoga, hiking and exploring her new surroundings in Korea.
In previous lives Ged has been a mining engineer, artist, computer programmer and a very minor pop celebrity. Son of a coal miner, he is British and comes from Ashington in Northumberland, but has no interest in football. Before venturing into the orient, Ged started his teaching career in Newcastle but got the travel bug and has since worked in Cairo and Paris. He is a vegan and is currently exploring the culinary possibilities that may or may not exist in Korea.
David started teaching in elementary schools in the UK and then qualified for Middle/High School Technology in electronics, materials, structures, pneumatics and graphics. He has been in charge of running a number of large departments as well as teaching other subjects as 'Unattached' staff. After working in a number of multi-cultural and inner-city schools, he has decided to extend his experience to international schools. David enjoys some outdoor activities, walking, camping, motoring and traveling, as well as visiting his family in Europe.
Charlie hails from Sussex in the UK. He has taught in secondary schools around the Brighton area as well as at the Norbulingka Institute in Dharamsala, India. As well as teaching Mathematics at ISB, he runs a school Warhammer and gaming Club. He has come to Korea with his wife and two children, who are the focus for much of his attention outside of school. His other interests include the guitar, writing and football stadium hopping.
Andy is originally from London, UK. After teaching Art and Design for 5 years in the “grim” north of England, Andy wanted to explore the world and see the sunshine again. He gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from Loughborough University from where he continued as a practicing artist. He has exhibited and had artwork published across the UK and hopes to continue to do so in South Korea.
Mr Loste is from the Pyrenees and has experienced the joys as well as the challenges of living abroad for over eight years. Before enjoying the inspiring, international atmosphere at the ISB he has taken care of libraries and students of all ages in China, the UK, France and Spain. Believing that international education can allow the next generation to exploit its full potential, making a difference in tomorrow's world, he is looking forward to practicing archery and learning paduk.
