Welcome to the Middle School Mathematics Homepage

ISB is a modern international school functioning within a global society that relies heavily upon communication and technology. Consequently, we encourage as often as possible the integration of technology into learning, particularly in the Mathematics Department. The Middle School Mathematics Programme at ISB is a technology-rich learning environment, where computers and learning are partnered together, to help educate students. Our teachers combine technology to help deliver stimulating lessons that engage students. Our goal at ISB is to make mathematics a fun and exciting learning experience.

Some of our resources include:

- powerpoint presentations that more clearly define key learning outcomes

- modern, colorful texts that include an interactive CD with e-book

- advanced graphing software

- a classroom projector that enables teachers to clearly illustrate important concepts

- regular visits to the computer lab

- world wide web interactive learning

In the Middle School at ISB, we are committed to making a learning environment that caters to the needs of every student. Our texts, together with various other modern resources, help to create a classroom that is consistently equitable for every student.

The Middle School follows the Cambridge Checkpoint curriculum, and uses an IB Middle Years Programme text to deliver the curriculum contents. The Checkpoint system revisits four central concepts over the course of middle school: number, algebra, geometry, and data handling. Throughout Grade 7 Mathematics the Middle School Programme students continually add to their knowledge in these areas and, by the end of Grade 8, have a consolidated understanding of all the central mathematical foundations, leaving them better prepared for the challenges present in the High School Mathematics Programme.

Nearing the end of their final year, students sit the Cambridge Checkpoint Examination, before moving on to Grade 9, where they begin the Cambridge IGCSE Programme.
