Middle School - Science
Welcome to ISB Middle School Science
Here at The International School at Busan we recognise the importance that science plays in todays modern society. To this end within the Middle School all our students follow the Cambridge Checkpoint Syllabus, leading to an externally assessed exam taken at the end of Grade Eight.
This three year science course is specifically chosen to allow students the opportunity to develop the skills and processes necessary for the basic understanding of scientific concepts in the world around us. The framework of study describes the topics that will be assessed in the areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. For more details (refer to Cambridge Checkpoint Exams).
Teachers within the department use a whole host of teaching strategies to maximise the learning opportunities for our student, however, the The over-riding principle is to recognise that science is a practical subject that is taught best by a hands-on approach.
These topics will be approached through practical work and related to everyday experience. Students will be expected to demonstrate:
- Application of scientific knowledge to explain everyday occurrences
- Knowledge of practical procedures
- Ability to present and process data
- Ability to perform simple calculations
- Correct use of scientific vocabulary and terminology
