Middle School - ICT

Welcome to ISB Middle School Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Middle school students obtain ICT skills through project work. They learn how to use the common applications including word processing, presentation, databases, spreadsheets, internet (web design, browsers, wikis), graphics, programming, and video editing. The skills are applied in a practical, problem solving environment.

Grade 6

In grade 6 students work on a project that investigates links between mathematics, art and ICT. Using the programming language LOGO (turtle graphics), they learn the necessary commands and mathematical calculations to create complex geometric shapes and colors. Their designs are based on ideas from the Opart movement, popular in the 1960’s.

Using the programming skills obtained in this unit, students then go on to study more structured methods of programming using flowcharts and procedures.

Grade 7

Grade 7 students start the year by being given the challenge of creating their lesson schedule on computer using only graphic images to represent the different subjects. This is to emphasize the fact that we are an international school, and sometimes the most appropriate (and realistic) form of communication is visual.

Grade 8

After learning about the inside of computers (hardware) and what the different software applications are for, grade 8 students’ work in groups on a business enterprise project. They are required to design and create all the necessary software to run a small business.
