Middle School - Korean

Korean as an additional language

In the middle school the student learn Korean and Korean culture through practical activities. The students learn not only the language but also experience Korean traditional games, food, customs and celebrations. Students are placed in class according to their level, thus assuring a smooth incorporation into the subject, no matter when the students join ISB.

Middle School Korean for Koreans

These courses are designed to develop and enhance Korean language skills for Korean students. The classes are designed to teach students interpersonal, interpretive, and presentation skills as well as the structure of the Korean language. The classes are also intended to encourage the use of their native language and help them further develop the core skills of speaking, listening, writing, and reading along with supplemental skills in understanding cultures and opinions.

Korean for Koreans classes are divided into five components. The first three components are covered during the Middle School years: 6th, 7th, and 8th grades respectively. The last two components mark the start of High School: 9th and 10th grades. These final two components are closely aligned with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) syllabuses in order to prepare the students for the IGCSE exams during their 10th grade year.

All five components follow a progressive pattern so the skills learned and developed in previous years are carried-over, reviewed, and expanded upon along an outline that follows students’ levels of achievement, comprehension, progression, and maturity.
