Middle School - Music

Middle School Music

Grade 7 performing in the 2008 Summer Concert. Music in the Middle School is a time to really have fun with music. Each Grade has two 50 minute sessions per week during which all students are shown how to put their own group together. Working with chord symbols and simple notation we all learn basic skills on keyboards, guitar, bass guitar and drum kit in addition to singing. We also compose our own instrumental music and songs using either traditional pen and paper or various types of music software. During the middle school years students will play music in a variety of styles such as blues, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, various types of traditional world music and classical music. This activity is guided by the Middle School Music Curriculum which aims to provide all students with the skills and experience necessary to go on to IGCSE or IB Music in the High School.

Music Online

Since 2007 we have been regularly posting student recordings and videos from all grades on www.isbmusic.org which provides a good overview of the variety and level of music in the Middle School. From the summer of 2009 we will be using www.isbcreative.org for all performing arts content.

Performances, Instrumental Music and Ensembles

The school year has a well developed cycle of performance opportunities suitable for Middle School students in which they can perform as individuals or as groups. Students can have instrumental lessons on a wide range of instruments and there are many opportunities for them to further develop their skills through different types of music ensembles.
