The High School English Department at ISB strives to foster a developed ability for our students to think and communicate through reading, writing, speaking and listening. In doing so, we aim to help students function effectively across our English-speaking curriculum and in a variety of environments: social, cultural and ultimately, professional.Through the exposure to a variety of texts, situations and learning scenarios, we promote an appreciation for the multiplicity of language and literature and encourage our students to become critical, reflexive thinkers who are aware of themselves, the human condition, and the cultural structures of the world.
Grade 9 - IGCSE First Language English
By following the IGCSE First Language Syllabus, the Grade 9 English course focuses on fortifying and enhancing students’ ability to read, write, listen and speak effectively in a variety of contexts. Students are provided with the opportunity to study texts from a range of fictional and non-fictional sources in order to understand the multiplicity of the English language and its forms.In doing so, students acquire the vocabulary, grammatical awareness, and communication skills necessary for the further enjoyment, appreciation and critical discernment of the English literary world.
