Design Technology at the ISB
The subject of Design Technology covers a wide range of activities and skills. At ISB, It is all about solving problems and fulfilling needs using a design process. These problems and needs have solutions that can be graphical, mechanical, structural and/or electrical, involving the use of specialist tools, machines, materials and other subjects. Design Technology can be thought of as the creative appliance of science the place where Art meets Science.
High School
Design Technology offers options for students to tackle IGSE Resistant Materials, Graphic Products or Technology. Whilst the core of each of these choices is the same, the different options allow students to specialize in an area of the subject where they can develop the most and where they have the greatest ability and interest. The major project undergone in Year 10 accounts for 50% of a student’s final grade. The scope and depth of the design and practical work in this area provides some of the most extended and challenging work for students at this age.
Students can go on to study the subject at greater depth and to develop their abilities in preparation for a range of different university courses and careers in many design-related fields.
