New Flu Information for 2016-2017

Flu(influenza) Season is upon us which means it is the perfect time to think about getting your annual flu vaccine. It takes up to two weeks to develop immunity against the flu, so now is the ideal time to be vaccinated before flu season peaks (usually form November to April)

Getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctor’s visit, and missed school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.

This season, only injectable flu vaccines (flu shots) should be used. Live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) -or the nasal spray vaccine – is not recommended for use during the 2016-2017 season because of concerns about its effectiveness. Some flu shots protect against three flu viruses and some protect against four flu viruses.

Flu vaccines protect against the three or four viruses that research suggests will be most common.  For 2016-2017, three-component vaccines are recommended to contain: A/California (H1N1), A/Hong Kong(H3N2), B/Brisbane(B/Victoria lineage). Four component vaccines are recommended to include the same three viruses plus an additional B virus called B/Phuket(B/Yamagata lineage) (US CDC)

The flu vaccine is now available at any pediatric(소아과), clinic or hospital(병원).
