MYP Information Night.
A great success. We had 21 parents join Jenny Montague and myself at the first of a number of information nights in the Secondary School. Jenny ran a wonderful evening with many interactive opportunities for the parents! The activities certainly made all of us think about the MYP and what it represents for our children’s education at BIFS. There were many laughs over the course of the evening. Please keep an eye on this blog for more information evenings as well as the Parent/Coffee mornings throughout this year.
Managebac in the Secondary School
Managebac is our student learning management platform. It is a very powerful system that allows the curriculum at BIFS to be clearly constructed and easily adjusted over the course of the year. It is also a tremendous tool for parents, as it allows you to view the progress of your child. Amongst other features, it enables you to see the homework that has been set, major assignments and their due dates, comments made by teachers on specific pieces of work etc. Once access has been established, I encourage all parents to check Managebac on a regular basis and to communicate directly with teachers as issues arise.
Here is a link to the form Mr Gysbers has created to begin the process of allowing you access to ManageBac: https://goo.gl/forms/
When able, please respond to this Google Form. Mr Gysbers will send you a welcome e-mail that comes straight from ManageBac. He will also send you a personal e-mail saying that you should have received a welcome e-mail (just in case it didn’t arrive) along with a video explaining the parent portal. Mr Gysbers is happy to have an information session for parents should there be sufficient demand.
MESSAGE FROM THE PTA
News from the Secondary Library
The books nominated for the 2019 Morning Calm Medal have arrived and are ready to be borrowed! Thanks to a grant from the BIFS PTA, the library has multiple copies of each title. Students who read at least 3 of the Middle School titles and/or 1 of the High School titles will be invited to cast their vote(s) in the spring. Come by the Secondary Library to borrow them (or place holds if all copies are already checked out).
Varsity Boys Volleyball Tournament
Dear Parents, Staff, Community and Supporters of the Bears Athletic Program:
On October 11- 14, 2018, BIFS will be hosting the Varsity Boys Volleyball Tournament in our international athletic league, the Association of International Schools Asia (AISA). There will be teams from Seoul, Yokohama and Osaka participating in this tournament.
One of AISA’s strengths is that it creates opportunities for students to interact in a multicultural setting while participating in a range of events, from sports tournaments to academic competitions to leadership conferences. One vital aspect of this intercultural interaction is the homestay experience. The homestay experience can be rewarding for both the host family and the guest students, and so the homestay experience is considered to be an integral part of AISA.
As always, in order to run a successful tournament, we need your support in either opening up your home to host students, or in helping us find a home for the travelling teams. We will be hosting 40 boys, therefore your assistance is greatly appreciated. Participating households will be required to house a minimum of 2 students. Please find the details of the host family responsibilities, as well as the homestay rules and responsibilities.
If you have any further questions, please contact the Athletic Director, Craig Wilson at [email protected]
We thank you for your support of BIFS Athletics!
Ms Miky Lee
