ISB24 – Step by Step

(Formerly Global Relay For Life)

ISB24 (Formerly Global Relay For Life) is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. ISB24 also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer. ISB24 is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises funds for the fight against Cancer.
The event will occur on Friday 7 June, 9.00am and conclude at 9.00am Saturday morning, 8 June. It will take place at the school Soccer Pitch. During the day on the 7 June, students from across the school will be involved in the event – coming out in their classes to walk laps in support of the cause. Once the school day concludes, the Teams will take over for the remainder of the 24 hours. The key rule is that there must be at least one representative of their team moving around the track at all stages of the event – including at 3.00am in the morning!

At ISB we are hosting our third 24-hour event. We hope you enjoy the experience and continue to support this superb cause. ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE DONATED to Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (DIRAMS) which is located in Gijang. Their site is located HERE

All participants in the ISB24 this year will need to pay a 20,000 KRW Entry Fee. Included in that fee will be an ISB24 T-Shirt as well as entry to the event. You can check which size shirt you would like by dropping into the school shop.

New Student Planner

At ISB we believe that supporting students with Self Management is not only important for success at school but also once they leave school. An essential part of being organised each day at school is to record homework and other essential messages in written form. Managebac will continue to be used as an electronic reminder of work due dates, grades, assessment tasks etc. All teachers in the Secondary section of the school are very excited about next year and the reintroduction of a Student Planner. But this planner is no ordinary planner – it is specifically tailored to suit both the Secondary School and the IB – the MYP and the DP programmes. I have included an overview of this planner for your perusal HERE. The planner will also be used extensively as part of Student Life as we continually adjust the programme to suit students’ needs.

The cost of the planner will be Won 20,000. This will be included as part of the fee invoice for the next Academic year. The planners will be distributed to all students at the start of next year.

As part of the preparation for next year, Ms Grinter recently held a competition for the design of the front cover for the new planner. The winner of the planner cover for 2019/20 is Sobin Hur in grade 6. We congratulate her for giving the design great thought and care so that it captured the essence of both the school and Korea. You will see the design below on the cover of all planners in the new academic year.

Grade 8 Lego Robot Wars!

Science Assembly

The Science Department was in charge of the Assembly this week. Their focus was on the environment – specifically the Greenhouse Effect and the size of each student’s Carbon Footprint. All people present at the Assembly completed a comprehensive questionnaire regarding their lifestyles and how much carbon they produced. The results were scary – most people who completed the survey had a significant Carbon Footprint. The take away from the Assembly was that we all had to reduce our impact on the environment – one person at a time!

A Reminder

Please don’t forget that MONDAY, 6 May is a Teacher Professional Development Day. There is NO school for any students at BIFS.
