Digital Literacy & Well-Being

At ISB, we believe that being a "Digitally Literate Learner" is about more than just technical skill; it is about Well-Being. We have moved beyond the traditional "don'ts" of the internet to focus on the "dos", empowering our students to use technology to solve problems, build community, and manage their digital lives with intentionality.

Our Curriculum: Common Sense Media
To ensure our students are prepared for a complex digital world, ISB utilizes the world-renowned Common Sense Media curriculum. This program is integrated directly into our Homeroom and Advisory periods, focusing on six core themes:

  • Media Balance & Well-Being: Learning when (and how) to disconnect.

  • Privacy & Security: Protecting personal data and digital identities.

  • Digital Footprint & Identity: Building a positive, "Human-Led" online presence.

  • Relationships & Communication: Developing empathy and kindness in digital spaces.

  • Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech: Standing up for others and building a supportive community.

  • News & Media Literacy: Identifying credible information in an era of AI and emerging tech.

Since 2019, ISB has been recognized as a Common Sense Media Certified School, a testament to our long-term commitment to excellence in this field.

The ISB Digital Community Agreement

Digital Literacy is a standard to which we hold our entire community accountable. To ensure a stable and principled learning environment, every student from Kindergarten through Grade 12, along with their teachers, signs a formal Digital Community Agreement annually.

This agreement is more than a set of rules; it is a shared commitment to:

  1. Use Technology for Good: Contributing creatively to a sustainable future.

  2. Maintain Human Agency: Ensure that digital technologies support, rather than replace human connection and thinking.

  3. Prioritize Well-Being: Recognizing that "Screen Value" is more important than "Screen Time."
